With Sergio Aguero’s time coming to an end, Manchester City are out to chase another superstar to replace the club legend.
It was the summer of 2011, when Manchester City acquired Sergio Aguero for 40 million euros from the Spanish club, Atletico Madrid, and embarked on a journey to become one of the most successful clubs in the Premier League in the last decade. Aguero has been the focal point of the Citizens’ success as the Argentine managed to win more than 10 titles with the Sky Blues and became their all-time top scorer.
The striker is now 32 and therefore, it is imperative that he is replaced by a quality player in the upcoming months. Given his goal-scoring exploits and consistency for nearly a decade, replacing Aguero would be a tough task but Manchester City’s financial supremacy over most European clubs may allow them to find an easier way.
The club has managed to spend more than a billion euros since the financial takeover by the City Football Group in 2009. The Citizens continue to spend more on their ongoing projects and seek reinforcements in return to achieve every possible objective. One of their most crucial objectives was to win the Premier League, but having won multiple titles, the focus has shifted to the Champions League.
With Aguero’s exit on the horizon, the Sky Blues are willing to make a move for the young Borussia Dortmund attacker, Erling Braut-Haaland, according to reports. The English side might face stern competition from Spanish giants Real Madrid, who look to rebuild their ageing attack. The young Norwegian has been a subject of interest for the top European clubs as he continues his impressive run of form.
Since he arrived at the German club in January, the 20-year-old has managed to feature more than 25 times for the club, scoring 22 goals and assisting six times in all competitions.
Die Borussen value their attacker highly and would not be willing to sell him so soon, but any club who can trigger his release clause of 75 million euros would then be free to negotiate personal terms. Apart from the former Salzburg marksman, Manchester City have also added Inter Milan ace Lautaro Martinez on their radar, who remains a Barcelona target since a few months now.
