Manchester City starlet, Eric Garcia, has rejected the option of reuniting with Barcelona.

The Barcelona graduate was heavily linked with a reunion with his former side but will remain with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

Barcelona identified their former youth star as the perfect candidate to replace 33-year-old Gerard Pique. Eric Garcia has evolved into one of the most promising defenders in the Premier League and has been placed as the number one choice to replace Pique considering his Barca background.

Pique and Garcia have a very similar career with both the defenders attracting a Manchester side during their time with Barca in their early days. While Pique went to Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United, Garcia found a similar home under Pep Guardiola at City.

The 21-year-old has blossomed into an elite defender with impressive on-field leadership qualities which make him reliable in every moment. The youngster’s contract, however, has been a talking point in recent times with the expiration being dated to 2021.

Garcia, like many others at Etihad, has to make a decision about his future as the City side are suffering from a Champions League ban set by UEFA. Barca are ready to use these uncertain times in Manchester to lure the youngster back to home. The player, however, has reportedly told Barcelona president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, that it is not yet the time to return to Camp Nou but perhaps in the future.

He has decided to renew until 2024 with the contract agreement almost finalized as Pep Guardiola looks to use his continued services on a regular basis. The reality of the matter is that Guardiola himself has an uncertain future ahead of him as Barca are looking to sign him once again to resolve the many issues at the club.

If that is the case, then Garcia signing an extended deal could be disastrous especially considering the Champions League ban received by City for the next two campaigns.
