Manchester City will be looking to battle Juventus in the race to sign a superstar striker

Manchester City is currently going through a spell of disastrous results. After winning the Premier League in the 2018-2019 season, the club took a major fall next season, losing out on the league by 18 points from champions Liverpool. After spending even more money in the summer transfer window on new players, the results haven’t improved for the Sky Blues as in the current season they have a single win from three games.

The major flaw of Pep Guardiola‘s side still remains to be its defense, but the Spaniard might have a new problem on his hands. With the departure of Leroy Sane and Sergio Aguero‘s increasing age, the English side might be needing reinforcements in attack. Though the signing of Ferran Torres was made as a replacement for Sane, it would be a much bigger task to find a replacement for the club’s leading goalscorer in Aguero. According to reports however, the Spanish coach might have a player in mind to replace the Argentine.

Recently, a youngster has been making headlines due to his exceptional goalscoring capabilities. Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Braut Haaland has put up extremely impressive numbers in the striker position, scoring 48 goals from his last 43 appearances. The Norwegian international’s abilities in front of goal have even been compared to Cristiano Ronaldo himself and clubs like Real Madrid and Juventus are among those interested in signing the youngster.

The 20-year-old would be a perfect replacement for Aguero and might even go on to break his records for the club and the Premier League. But, it would be difficult for Guardiola to acquire the services of the Dortmund star as the club already plans to bring in Lionel Messi next year and the fee of such a prolific talent would not come cheap. Purchasing him for 20 million euros from Red Bull Salzburg, the Bundesliga would not be looking to sell him for a price that will be less than 100 million euros.

Though Haaland might not be Guardiola’s ideal striker for his playstyle, his physicality, pace, and threat that he proves to be in front of goal should more than make up for it. But, battling the likes of Juventus in the race to sign the prolific forward would not be easy as the Serie A giants have desperately been looking for attacking reinforcements to go alongside Cristiano Ronaldo. The factor of playing with the Portuguese international might be one that may give the Bianconeri an edge in the race of signing Haaland, as he regards Ronaldo as his idol and inspiration.

Manchester City and Juventus, both wish to go win more than just domestic titles and hope of lifting the Champions League. The addition of a talent like Haaland to the squad might provide the much-needed boost they need to pursue such a dream, and it would be interesting to see where the striker would play in the future.
