Manchester City receive an update from Barcelona over the potential transfer of Eric Garcia this summer transfer market
The disastrous 2019/20 season for Barcelona has raised concern over the slack defensive line. The Catalans have been exposed defensively numerous times last season that has been the primary reason behind the sacking of Ernesto Valverde and Quique Setien along with a trophyless season. To solver their defensive issues, Barcelona have been linked with Eric Garica of Manchester City for the past few months.
The former La Masia graduate has shown signs of promise at the Etihad Stadium this season after being handed 13 appearances in the Premier League under Pep Guardiola. The 19-year-old Spaniard is a modern day defender who relies on his ball-playing ability to make an impact on the game. Garica is not the most physically strong defender, however, the player is comfortable on the ball to start an attacking transition from the backline.
Eric Garcia’s style of play goes hand in hand with the system at Barca, however, according to recent reports, Ronald Koeman has ruled out the possible signing for the Spanish defender as Barcelona have to sell a few more players before they can make more signings.
The former La Masia graduate has entered the final twelve months of his contract and has even stated that he will not renew terms with the English side. Barca would most likely have to wait for another season before they can sign their wanted man on a free transfer.
Having said that, it seems like Eric Garcia will stay at Manchester City for another season. Pep Guardiola is on the lookout for a world-class centre-back and Kalidou Koulibaly remains the top priority for the Sky Blues. However, Koulibaly’s transfer situation seems to be a complicated one as Napoli continue to stall the negotiation process.
