Manchester City are all set to begin negotiations for signing next year’s target just three weeks after the summer transfer window ended.
Manchester City are going to need to replace some of their ageing players and Fernandinho is among those. The Brazilian has been at the club since 2013 and proven to be a colossal figure as the defensive midfielder. Having developed into one of the best players in his position over the last couple of years, Fernandinho is a Manchester City legend.
His contract at the Etihad Stadium expires in June 2021 and given that he is 35 now, the player may agree to depart the club. In the event that he chooses to leave, the Citizens will be left with only Rodri as a natural defensive midfielder and that is definitely not an ideal situation considering that the club will compete in four competitions throughout the season.
Christian Falk has now reported that the Sky Blues are preparing a bid worth 40 million euros to sign Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria. The 23-year-old is likely to depart the Bundesliga side at the back of interest from some of Europe’s finest clubs, such as Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Manchester United, besides the forerunners in City.
Zakaria, as mentioned is the subject of interest for two of Pep Guardiola’s direct league rivals and hence, signing him would be a big statement for Manchester City especially because his characteristics match those that they are looking for. The Swiss international has a good aerial prowess and physique, whilst his passing and pressing are commendable.
Apart from Zakaria, the 6-time Premier League champions have not explored an alternative choice and that’s another feature which goes on to show the youngster’s potential and the grand expectations bestowed upon him. While initially he may not be a regular fixture, Zakaria can surely win his place and give Rodri a run for his money in the team.
