Manchester City prepares a final approach to pay in their pursuit to bring in Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi

Lionel Messi has made up his mind regarding his future. The Argentina international has spent all of his professional career playing for Barcelona, winning trophies and breaking records in the process. However, in recent years, the 33-year-old has been disappointed with the club’s performances in the UEFA Champions League with upsetting exits in the knockout stages for the past four years.

Messi has been making demands as the captain of the club to sign new and better players and was determined to stay at the club and help improve its results. But, due to recent internal politics involving the board and the president of the club and several incidents, the star forward has decided he has had enough and wants to leave the club. The initial plan was an exit in the 2020 transfer window, but due to his 700 million euros release clause, no team was interested in the sale.

Instead, the Argentine forward would now have to wait till 2021 till his contract runs out to make a move away from the Camp Nou. Though not many can afford the player’s astronomical wages, Manchester City has been the club that has been linked with the player since the speculation began. Like any other club, the Sky Blues were not willing to dish out 700 million euros for a player, the Premier League side has reportedly decided to make an offer to the Catalans.

Messi’s contract with Barcelona will be running out next season, which will then mean that the Blaugrana would lose perhaps their best player of all time on a free transfer. The departure of their star forward is seemingly inevitable, and City has given the La Liga giants an option to gain some money out of it. Pep Guardiola’s side will be looking to bring the 33-year-old to the Etihad in the January transfer window for a fee of just 15 million euros.

There will undoubtedly be still competition for acquiring the services of the Barca number 10, but with such an offer City will hope to lead the race to sign the player. Barca would also be inclined to accept the fee and the offer as if they refuse, they risk losing their best player free of cost.
