Manchester City battle it out with Tottenham for star midfielder
Southampton midfielder Pierre Emile Hojbjerg is currently on his last year of contract with The Saints and is now being targeted by two rival managers, Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho. Both Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to battle it out to sign the 24-year-old midfielder over the summer, according to the Daily Record.
Hojbjerg who was on the squad at Bayern Munich under Pep Guardiola is labeled at one of his “prodigies” as Pep promoted him into the first squad for the Bundesliga side when the player was 17 years old. Pep Guardiola might just have the upper hand here in signing the Danish midfielder because of their past relations. Pep Guardiola would love a midfielder over at Manchester City this summer especially with a low cut-price and Pierre Emile Hojbjerg fits the bill.
The player will not have any trouble adjusting under the Catalan given that he was previously coached by the Manchester City boss at Bayern Munich. With the likes of David Silva leaving at the end of this season, Fernandinho entering the end of his career, Pierre Emile Hojbjerg will be a very good addition to the city side, given the good qualities that the 24-year-old has under his belt.
Tottenham Hotspur boss, Jose Mourinho too will be looking to battle it out with Pep Guardiola in order to sign the Southampton midfielder as he is in a dire need of a midfielder too. With the likes of Christian Eriksen already gone the way of the Serie A and new big-money signing Ndombele staying mostly injured and has been linked with moves away from England, the former Manchester United boss will surely be looking at a few options who will fit the bill for a lesser amount of money over the summer such as Pierre Emile Hojbjerg
Obviously, Tottenham Hotspur would be an ideal choice for the 24-year-old given the fact that Manchester City, although losing a couple of midfielders, still has a substantial amount of midfielders ready to provide competition.
Players such as Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan, Phil Foden, Rodri, and Bernardo Silva will not make it easy for Hojbjerg to get regular starts if the Danish international does end up at the blue side of Manchester. On the other hand, the player would see regular starts if he ends up in North London given the lack of a proper box to box central midfielders in Tottenham.
Pierre Emile Hojbjerg is a composed midfielder who will definitely improve any squad he joins. He is good on the ball, his long passes are great and his aerial ball-winning abilities stand out. Manchester City or Tottenham Hotspur, the midfielder certainly has a bright career ahead especially after four good years of experience in the Premier League.
