Manchester City have their signing of the summer from the La Liga Santander

The 2019/20 season could be described as a nightmare for Pep Guardiola and Manchester City, however, the Sky Blues of Manchester could turn the season around if they manage to keep the champions of Spain silent when they visit the Etihad Stadium to play the second leg of the Round of 16 in the Champions League.

After losing the Premier League to Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool and their recent defeat against Mikel Arteta‘s Arsenal in the semi-final of the FA Cup has raised ears over the concern for the upcoming season of 2020/21. Guardiola believes that a centre-back should be the main priority of the summer and Kalidou Koulibaly has been the first name on the former Bayern Munich manager’s agenda.

However, the negotiations between Napoli and Manchester City have been going on for months. There seems to be no progression as each time there is a new situation that emerges to stall the operation. The Senegal international defender has reportedly changed his agent in the due process as well, however, the change of agents has now taken the negotiations back to scratch.

With Kalidou Koulibaly seemingly like a long shot for the Catalan coach, Guardiola has now turned his attention toward’s Diego Simeone’s star defender, Jose Gimenez.

Gimenez may not be as good as Kalidou Koulibaly or anywhere near his quality, however, the Uruguayan international has been a key figure under Diego Simeone for several years. The Atletico Madrid defender is a pacey strong defender and is extremely good in the air and never shies away from a strong duel.

Unlike Laporte who is brilliant on the ball and is extremely calm and composed, Gimenez on the other side is an aggressive defender and a master at reading the attack before intercepting it. Guardiola could certainly transform and work on his passing skills since the Spanish coach starts his attack from the defense.

Playing out from the back may not be Gimenez’s strong point, however, the defender is just 25-years-old and could mature into a world-class centre-back at the Etihad Stadium over time. However, Atletico Madrid has demanded a stunning 120 million euros for their defender which may be an issue for the Premier League side this summer.

Would you want to see Gimenez alongside Laporte at Manchester City next season and is the La Liga Santander defender worth 120 million euros?
