Arsenal are going back and forth with Champions League semi finalist for Olympique Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar.

It was a season of mixed emotions for the Gunners as they finished eighth in the Premier League but managed to win the FA Cup for the 14th time under Mikel Arteta. Arsenal emerged victorious against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in the semifinal. A brace from their star attacker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang saw them lift the title against their London rivals, Chelsea.

Ever since the commencement of the summer transfer window, Arsenal have been working hard to fulfill the Spanish manager’s requirement by bringing in players Gabriel Magalhaes and Willian. Aubameyang’s contract renewal was seen with as much zest as a new signing. In a recent press conference Arteta indicated that the Gunners will have to sell more players in order to balance the squad and club finances.

After an impressive season with Lyon, Houssem Aouar is subjected to a move with Arsenal who are most interested in acquiring the French international’s services. With his exceptional positioning and ability to find pockets of space between defenders, he would certainly compliment the playing style of Arsenal’s midfield, combined with lethal pace of the wingers such as Nicolas Pepe, Willian and Gabriel Martinelli.

The French outlet values its midfielder at 44 million euros with Lyon chief, Jean-Michel Aulas confirming that the ‘Les Gones’ has not received an official offer from the north London side and does not see the midfielder making a switch to the Emirates Stadium this season despite his Champions League heroics last season. The French international appeared 41 times for Lyon scoring nine goals and assisting 10 times in all competitions.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta will be looking add a midfielder to his squad in order to close the gap on top clubs in the Premier League. The club is trying to achieve its transfer targets in the most effective and efficient way possible with the aim for a top four this season. Besides Aouar, talks are also ongoing between the club and Atletico Madrid over a potential switch for Thomas Partey.
