Luka Jovic of Real Madrid made a serious mistake of turning down several offers this summer transfer market
Luka Jovic’s dream move from Eintracht Frankfurt to Real Madrid last summer has turned into a daunting nightmare form the Serbian striker. The 22-year-old striker lit up the Bundesliga and the Europa League in the 2018/19 season with Frankfurt which earned him a move to Real. However, the player has failed to earn minutes under his belt in his first season and the same might just follow this season as well.
In the 2019/20 season, Luka Jovic was handed just 430 minutes in the Spanish league which is equivalent to almost five full games. The media has often written off the player as a flop, failure, or an overrated forward, however, that is far from reality as the former Benfica man has not been given the opportunity to prove his worth.
It seemed like the start of the 2020/21 season would provide the Balkan a clean slate to start his career off with Real Madrid. However, the opening La Liga fixture against Real Sociedad proved otherwise. Jovic was left as an unused substitute despite being a goal less draw.
Los Blancos were in need of firepower in the opposition box and the Serbian striker was the missing piece for Real. However, Zinedine Zidane stood his ground and adopted to field two debutant wingers from the youth academy ahead of Luka Jovic.
Post game, the French manager was asked why he did not bring on the former Eintracht Frankfurt forward to which he replied that he did not want to change the formation of the team by playing two strikers. Zinedine Zidane went on to state
“We have a squad and many players and I have to choose. Today, this is how I picked things. But, I don’t have anything against any player. Like I said before, I didn’t want to change the formation”- Zinedine Zidane on Luka Jovic not featuring against Real Sociedad
Although Zidane claims to have no issues with Luka Jovic, it seems like the player and the manager certainly do share a strained relationship that has been the case with James Rodriguez and Gareth Bale. It has been reported that Jovic had received an offer this summer from Chelsea, however, the player turned it down to make a mark this season and the Blues opted for Timo Werner.
The 22-year-old has asked for a move out from Real and it seems like he might just head back to the Bundesliga to regain his confidence and form.
