Luka Jovic‘s dream move to Real Madrid in the summer of 2019 turned into a nightmare for the Serbian international striker
Real Madrid spent big in the summer of 2019 as the club signed Rodrygo, Eden Hazard, Ferland Mendy, Eder Militao, and Luka Jovic. The signing of Jovic from Eintracht Frankfurt cost Los Blancos 60 million euros after the Serbian put on a grand display at the Bundesliga and UEFA Europa League under Niko Kovac.
The Serbian scored 27 goals in the 2018/19 season and was subsequently signed by Real Madrid. It was a dream come true for the player himself and for many supporters as well who believed that the former Benfica man would solve their goal-scoring issue. However, in his debut season, the Balkan managed to win two trophies including La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup, however, his overall contribution was minimal.
In fact, the Serb was involved in more off-field matters than spending time on the field with the Real Madrid shirt on. In his debut season, Jovic had decided not to attend to his international duties with Serbia as he wanted to prove a point at the Bernabeu and Zinedine Zidane. However, his decision to impress the Frenchman did not go to plan and the player had also then hampered his reputation and ties with the Serbian national team.
To make matters worse, Luka Jovic also broke a quarantine rule of Serbia as the player had decided to leave Madrid during the pandemic break to visit his hometown. The off-field antics did not just end there as Jovic was ruled out for a greater part of the second half of the season following the resumption of football as he incurred a mystery injury during self-isolation.
The 2020/21 season offered the former Frankfurt man a clean slate to prove a point to Zinedine Zidane and the supporters of Real. However, the Serbian has once again failed to make an impact on his season apart from the Real Valladolid game where the player was fantastic overall.
It has now been reported that there could be a possible arrest warrant for the 22-year-old who has a pending trial over the violation of the COVID-19 rules in Serbia. One can say, that Jovic’s life has taken a drastic turn or low ever since he moved to Santiago Bernabeu. The former Bundesliga striker must solve his off-field issues as he is living on borrowed time at the Bernabeu that can be proven by the statements made by Borja Mayoral.
