Luis Suarez personally tells Lautaro Martinez to wait for the official negotiations with Barcelona.
It is a well-known fact that the Catalan giants are looking to build for the future with the biggest transfer agenda being the signing of a long-term heir to 33-year-old Luis Suarez. The Uruguayan international is the sole, pure No. 9 in the current Barca squad and his injury this season truly hindered the club’s success.
Despite having the likes of Antoine Griezmann and Martin Braithwaite, Quique Seiten does not have a pure striker in his ranks which is evident from the squad’s struggles this campaign, when it came to breaking the opposition’s defensive line.
Since the restart, Setien’s men tied 3 matches and lost one to a 10-man Osasuna, unable to score as they lack players who are willing to take a shot. Only Ansu Fati and Lionel Messi have regularly attempted to score while Suarez and Griezmann have had inconsistent performances throughout.
The board have identified Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez as the ideal solution to the problem but the Italian side are looking to keep hold of their Argentine striker by offering him an improved contract.
Barcelona, however, are confident about having the 22-year-old convinced to move to Camp Nou with Suarez also vetoing the arrival of his replacement.
Reports claim that the Uruguayan personally called the youngster to ask him to reject the option to remain at San Siro and await Barca’s approach. Meanwhile, the Nerazzurri are looking to convince the superstar to stay but face a difficult task ahead as his 1.5 million euro per season salary could be financially tough to meet for the Italians.
The negotiations have been halted until the end of the Champions League campaign in Portugal at which point Lautaro might be persuaded to move to Spain in order to play alongside countryman, Messi.
