Liverpool are ready to battle Tottenham Hotspur for Inter Milan defender as the club is in dire of a replacement for van Dijk.
Liverpool have had a good start to the ongoing season as the English Champions are sitting first in both, the Premier League and their Champions League group. However, the Reds have been defensively vulnerable this term as their performance at the back has not been up to mark as they not only conceded twice against Everton but also saw Aston Villa put seven past them. In seven league clashes, they’ve already let in 15 goals.
Jurgen Klopp’s side dealt with a huge blow in the Merseyside Derby as they lost Virgil van Dijk to an ACL injury which supposedly sidelines the player till the end of the season. The Dutch international recently had undergone a surgery on his knee and will soon begin rehabilitation.
Liverpool have now started to look for a replacement for their injured star and are now eyeing a move for Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar. The defending Premier League champions are in dire need of a substitute centre-back and hence feel the need to sign the Slovakian international in the upcoming winter transfer window.
According to ESPN, Klopp’s side might face stiff competition from Tottenham Hotspur as the North London side were previously in contention to sign the defender in the recently concluded transfer window but had instead opted to sign Joe Rodon from Swansea due to monetary constraints.
Liverpool is altogether looking to bring in a defensive reinforcement in the winter transfer window which might hamper the chances for Jose Mourinho’s side to secure a deal for the Nerazzurri defender as Spurs were looking to sign the defender by next summer. Klopp has already used the likes of Nathaniel Philip, Fabinho and Joel Matip to fill in for the former Southampton man, and is now relying on Rhys Williams.
Tottenham will have to compete with the Reds in the winter transfer window if they are to secure the services of the Inter centre-back. However, the North London side will not be willing to spend a hefty fee for Skriniar as they have already spent over 60 million pounds on new arrivals in the summer.
The English champions are expecting to land an ideal substitute in January as they look to retain their league title and also aim for a seventh Champions League title.
