Liverpool prepare to offer two of their players for a grand transfer this summer
Liverpool was crowned champions of England after thirty years since their league championship campaign in 1990. The Reds were confirmed as the Premier League winners of the 2019/20 season after Chelsea’s Brazilian forward, Willian, slotted home a goal from the penalty spot to put the Blues of London a goal ahead of the Sky Blues that sealed their 2-1 victory.
In the last two seasons under Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool have won the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup and now the Premier League, however, the hunger to continue their success for next season has not diminished after reports from the Express confirm that the Reds have re-ignited their interest to sign Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly.

Jurgen Klopp believes that the addition of the 29-year-old defender from the Serie A would play an instrumental role in sustaining the success for Liverpool next season when paired with Virgil van Dijk at the back. A central defensive partnership of Van Dijk and Koulibaly could be possibly described as a “nightmare for the forwards”, however, Napoli demands a figure close to 100 million pounds which sounds quite steep for the board at Anfield.
The report further claims that the Premier League side has considered offering Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren in order to reduce the asking fee set by the Serie A side. The possible arrival of the Senegal international would certainly make Liverpool a force to reckon with defensively, however, it may hamper the growth of Joe Gomez who has shown immense potential this season under Klopp.
The 23-year-old English defender has won the hearts of the supporters at Anfield this season and is valued very highly by his German manager, however, with Kalidou Koulibaly in the squad, Joe Gomez’s playing time would certainly reduce which might even lead the player to consider a move away to fulfill his potential by earning more minutes under his belt.
The other situation that Liverpool would have to look into is that Manchester City has also shown serious interest in signing the Napoli defender are willing to break the bank this summer in order to pair the defender with Aymeric Laporte. Apart from Koulibaly’s physical traits, the defender is also a brilliant passer of the ball which might be another reason why he would opt to join forces with Pep Guardiola since his skill set matches the demands of a defender that the former Barcelona manager requires.
Do you think Liverpool should go all out to sign Europe’s most wanted defender? or should they continue in believing and trusting Joe Gomez to partner with Virgil van Dijk?.
