Barcelona coach, Ronald Koeman, is looking to secure Liverpool star as part of the massive restructuring project.
Newly appointed Barcelona coach has a major task ahead of him as he looks to not only sell multiple first-team footballers but also replace them with quality reinforcements with one target being named from Liverpool.
The Dutch international wants to use his influence from his time as the coach of the Netherland national team to secure Dutch internationals like Ajax’s Donny van de Beek and Liverpool’s Georginio Wijnaldum.
With multiple stars like Gerard Pique, Luis Suarez, Antoine Griezmann, Ousmane Dembele, Nelson Semedo, Philippe Coutinho and Samuel Umtiti, all being linked with a possible exit this transfer window, Barca could realistically manage to rejuvenate the squad with multiple new signings.
Koeman has been reported to be keeping a close eye on the situation of Liverpool’s Dutch star, Wijnaldum. The 29-year-old is yet to agree upon a contract renewal with the Premier League champions and with one year remaining, Barca could potentially sign him for cheap.
Despite already securing 30-year-old Miralem Pjanic from Juventus, It remains to be seen if Koeman considers him in his starting lineup. Reports suggest that the former Netherland coach has urged Wijnaldum to not sign a renewal with Jorgen Klopp’s side.
With Frenkie de Jong already being made the core of Barca’s midfielder, reported to take over Sergio Busquet’s role as the pivot, both Wijnaldum and Van de Beek could take over the role as the center-midfielder. During an interview, Koeman hinted towards using Philippe Coutinho as the attacking midfielder, completing the ideal trio.
Bartomeu had suggested earlier that the club are not capable of securing multiple signings this transfer window but with multiple players linked with an exit, it will not only raise funds but also rid the club of its burden of paying multiple expensive salaries.
