Barcelona are dealing with the risk of Lionel Messi leaving the club. with the likelihood of a switch to PSG not being ruled out.
Lionel Messi has been left fuming over the latest transfer activities undertaken by Barcelona. The Argentina international believes there’s a major disparity between the players being brought in and those which are needed. The board led by Josep Maria Bartomeu clearly doesn’t seem to understand that and now, the Argentine is willing to leave having already reached boiling point.
According to Don Balon, Messi has been in touch with Paris Saint-Germain and has already made demands to the French side’s board if they would like to see him at the Parc des Princes, following his likely departure from the Camp Nou. The cycle of changes has started at Barcelona as they prepare for a revolution within the club.
There are many changes in the line-up to be made in addition to the several senior players who are set to face the axe. There have been two noteworthy press-conferences at the Camp Nou, post the 8-2 drubbing in the Champions League quarterfinal.
The standalone point from those press-conferences apart from the announcement of Ronald Koeman’s tenure is that both, Bartomeu and Koeman have said that Messi has a contract and will be staying at the club. However, none of them ever mentioned that Messi has the desire to stay which suggests the seriousness of the situation.
The very fact that the Argentine ace is presenting his demands to other clubs is very offsetting for the Blaugrana. The 33-year-old has demanded a whopping 45 million euros per year as wages from the Paris-based outfit. In all honesty, the only clubs that can afford Messi are PSG and Manchester City keeping in mind his wage demands and a potentially world-record transfer fee.
It is also believed that the Ligue 1 giants are trying to prepare the funds required to suit Messi’s demands. Should his request be fulfilled, it will place him on a higher pedestal than the likes of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe with the latter yet to renew his contract and a move to Real Madrid looking like an imminent prospect.
These are indeed troubling times for Barcelona, and they might even get to keep Messi for themselves and all it will take is the resignation of Bartomeu, whom Messi blames for many things. It is going to be a very tricky phase for the current Barcelona president if he does decide to carry on despite the inhospitable conditions for a good work surroundings.
