Lionel Messi has plenty of demands from Barcelona if they want him to remain at Camp Nou.
After the disappointing performance of the squad and the lack of support from the team, Lionel Messi is dejected by the management. Although many expected things to improve after Quique Setien‘s appointment in January, the team still has a long way to go. While the Spanish coach is no doubt better than Ernesto Valverde in understanding the Barca philosophy, the players still don’t trust him and their performance still leaves a lot to be desired.
The recent concession of victory of the Spanish League to arch-rivals, Real Madrid, has left the Club Captain angry with the management, with various demands and a threat of leaving if they’re not met. These include the exit of several players he deems unfit for the team, and some signings he expects will raise the quality at Camp Nou. He even seems to object to the current boss, Setien, and doesn’t want the 61-year-old to continue as the team’s manager. Even the Club President, Josep Maria Bartomeu, has no place in Messi’s vision for the future of the club.
The Argentine would demand no less than 5 departures, whose performances justify their exit. The ones that could have been indicated by Leo include Philippe Coutinho, Ousmane Dembele, Junior Firpo, Samuel Umtiti, and Nelson Semedo. While the management has already looked to offload Dembele, Coutinho, and Semedo; Firpo and Umtiti could have had more time at Camp Nou.
On a happier note, the maestro has asked for 3 signings that could really impact the Club and make a difference. While his desire for Neymar to return is well-known, the 33-year-old also wants fellow countryman, Lautaro Martinez at Barcelona and the management have been working to bring these players and convince Messi to sign a contract renewal. The third player he desires is somewhat surprising considering he’s already a part of Barcelona and out on loan to Real Betis: 21-year-old Emerson.
While the 6 times Ballon D’or winner, definitely desires the departure Setien, he wishes for the return of former teammate, Xavi Hernandez to lead the team instead. The biggest and perhaps most crucial demand is the exit of Current club President, Josep Maria Bartomeu. While its difficult to see Bartomeu remain past the 2021elections, Messi’s influence might force an early exit, with some serious consequences that could be either catastrophic or hugely beneficial depending on the Presidential election.
