Koeman plans to part company with three Barcelona players in January

Barcelona are ready to show the door to three young players during the ongoing transfer window as Koeman does not count upon them.

Barcelona are looking to make some key signings this month which could help them reach their goals by the end of the season. The likes of Eric Garcia and Memphis Depay continue to be on their radar as both the players will be available at reasonable prices given the expiry of their contracts with Manchester City and Lyon, respectively, in June this year.

Considering long-term injuries to Ansu Fati, Gerard Pique and Philippe Coutinho, the Blaugrana are in need of an injection of new phases in those roles which is why they are expected to expedite their pursuit of the mentioned players. Having said that, their financial position means they must get rid of a few names to be able to afford their key targets.

According to RAC1, Ronald Koeman is expected to axe as many as three Barcelona players this month as he hopes to make way for newer arrivals. Carles Alena, Junior Firpo and Matheus Fernandes are all staring at uncertain futures at the Camp Nou as the La Liga giants have now asked them to find newer pastures in the ongoing transfer window itself.

Similar to Riqui Puig, Carles Alena is in a frustrating situation at Barca as he has been entirely overlooked by the manager. The Dutchman continues to play the aged players, which has resulted in the 23-year-old featuring just five times in all competitions across 170 minutes. Getafe are the only party interested in landing him on a short-term loan.

Junior Firpo has been one of the poorer signings made by Josep Maria Bartomeu as he has struggled to match Jordi Alba’s qualities at the left-back role. In his limited appearances, the ex-Real Betis defender has shown that he is not good enough for Barca, who are looking to cut their losses at the earliest having spent close to 20 million euros on him.

Matheus Fernandes meanwhile has also struggled for minutes this season. Another one of Barca’s central midfielders has found minutes hard to come by, playing only 17 so far in the season as the manager’s preferences constantly keep him down the pecking order. The Brazilian although is seen as one for future and could only be loaned out, like Alena.

Do you think the Catalans will be able to get rid of younger players and sign a much-needed defender and winger in the January transfer window?
