Juventus offer Chelsea a grand swap deal for Jorginho
It is no secret this season that Juventus need a change in the dynamics of their midfield, with most of their players are either a number 6 or an 8 who mostly operate from box to box and opposition have generally found it quite easy to defend and negate the midfield threat.
Juventus have shown intent to fix this problem and build a midfield suited towards the needs and tactics of Sarri by signing Arthur from Barcelona and are reportedly interested in securing the services of Chelsea midfielder Jorginho who was an instrumental figure under Sarri at Napoli and Chelsea.
Jorginho enjoyed a decent start to the campaign under Sarri and in the second season under Lampard managed to win the fans over by some fine displays in midfield for the blues before the lockdown. However, after the lockdown, Lampard has opted for a change of dynamics in midfield by opting to play with N’golo Kante as the holding midfielder surrounded by two other midfielders who can play as a no.8 and a 10 acting as runners and supporting the attack, with the likes of Mount, Barkley, Ruben-Loftus Cheek and Kovacic getting the nod.
This move has resulted in Jorginho not getting a single minute on the pitch. The game against Crystal Palace was further evidence of how far Jorginho has fallen down the pecking order as Gilmour was preferred in the holding role. The asking price set by Chelsea for Jorginho might prove to be a stumbling block in this deal with the blues demanding at least £40m for the player they signed in 2016 as reported by Tuttosport.
Juventus CEO Fabio Paratici in early May during an interview with Sky Sport was quoted saying “if you can’t buy a house, you can rent it. If you can’t buy a player that costs a lot, try to rent it for as long as possible and then possibly redeem it later. In this market, you have to be elastic”.
Juventus will have to apply this theory into practice like they did when Cuadrado was signed from Chelsea in 2016 with five million paid each year as a loan fee and the final redemption in 2019. As per the reports from Tuttosport, it is believed Juventus will follow a similar type of deal with the leased purchase being close to the asking price quoted by Chelsea.
The first purchase option of the Bianconeri will be a player exchange deal involving either Aaron Ramsey and Adrien Rabiot. However, it is unlikely Chelsea will accept this type of a deal as the Blues are very well stocked with the midfield and attacking options after the arrivals of Ziyech and Werner.
Juventus will have to offer a purchase lease deal of around £40-50m if they have any hopes of signing Jorginho from Chelsea. Do you think Chelsea should cash in on Jorginho?
