Juventus are looking to rebuild their squad during the summer and have identified a Manchester United player in their bid to do so.
Juventus are currently fourth in the Serie A and trail Inter Milan significantly, which means that their dream of winning a tenth successive Scudetto is on the line and seems to be a distant fantasy at the moment. Andrea Pirlo’s men are even out of the Champions League and with a few matches remaining, the team’s goal would be European qualification.
The Old Lady have not been worth a silverware contender for the entirety of this season and there has been a lot of criticism over the side’s ageing squad. The central defenders as such have done a decent job, but the fullbacks at Pirlo’s disposal are a cause for concern and Juventus have been usually caught out due to the poor forms of Alex Sandro and Danilo.
Sandro, although a scorer of two goals in their recent win over Parma, has been far from an ideal left-back over the last few years, at least for a supposed Champions League contender. The Brazilian’s fitness and work-rate allow one to write home little about him, as he struggles to cope regularly with the tasks of contributing defensively and offensively, too.
According to Calcio Mercato, the Bianconeri are considering a rebuild this summer and the left-back spot is one which they would like to add potion to. Consequently, they have shortlisted Alex Telles as a potential arrival from Manchester United. The Italians were interested in him since a few years but were unable to stave off the Red Devils’ interest.
Telles has not had an ideal first season at Old Trafford, courtesy of Luke Shaw’s blistering run of form, and his involvement has been largely limited to the bench. The fact that Manchester United were fighting in all competitions for large parts of the season and are continuing to do so does not help the former Porto defender’s cause either.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has opted for as less rotation in his defence as possible and like a few other United players, the 28-year-old has been confined to the bench. Juventus are pondering over a move for him and will offer Adrien Rabiot in a swap deal. The Zebre are struggling financially and may not be able to entirely pay Telles’ transfer fees.
Rabiot’s career at the Allianz Stadium has been far from ideal and that, has continuously linked him with a switch away from Turin. However, it is very unlikely that Manchester United will accept him in any sort of a switch. While the midfielder’s qualities are average, the Red Devils also don’t require additions to the midfield, which is already stacked.
Nevertheless, to Juve’s advantage, they may be willing to part with Telles within just one year of signing him. Neither for the club, nor for a player of Telles’ calibre, does it make sense to be a second-choice player, more so, at the back of an expensive transfer. With a contract until 2024, both parties may prefer parting ways if Telles is unable to play often.
