Juventus keen on signing Liverpool superstar on a free transfer this summer

Juventus are planning on conducting a revamp over the summer and have identified a potential free signing from Liverpool.

The 2020/21 season has turned out to be a disaster for Juventus. Under the new coach Andrea Pirlo, the Old Lady of Turin has not only lost out on winning their 10th straight Scudetto but have also crashed out from the UEFA Champions League in the round of 16 against the underdogs, Porto.

Despite the shortcomings, this season, Andrea Agnelli and Pavel Nedved still continue to trust Pirlo to continue at the helm next season as well. Although Pirlo might have the backing of the club, the Italian desperately requires a revamp over the summer if he is to lead Juventus to success next season.

The defence and midfield are in a dire need of recruitment. As per Marca,  Juventus have shortlisted Gini Wijnaldum of Liverpool as a potential transfer target for the summer. The 30-year-old midfielder will be made available as a free agent in June once his contract expires.

Last summer, the Bianconeri signed Adrien Rabiot and Aaron Ramsey on free transfers, however, the pair have failed to deliver to the high expectations. Especially the latter who has struggled to adapt to life in Italy. Meanwhile, Wijnaldum seems to be a player that fits Pirlo’s profile of a midfielder.

Andrea Pirlo is in need of an energetic box to box midfielder who can not only support the attack and defence but can also contribute in the final third. The Italian manager believes that Wijnaldum could be the one to help solve the lacklustre midfield that has failed to support the attack this season.

Nonetheless, signing the Liverpool midfielder this summer will certainly not be an easy task. The report from Marca states that Chelsea are also interested in signing the Dutch international. Thomas Tuchel’s project seems to be more attractive when compared to the project by Andrea Pirlo. It would be quite a tussle between the two for the 30-year-old midfielder.
