Juventus consider resigning their Spanish superstar who has struggled ever since the player left the city of Turin.
For the past few years, Italian giants Juventus have fallen behind in the hierarchy of the European elites and have lacked the firepower to challenge any of them. Since the UEFA Champions League final against Real Madrid back in 2017 where they lost 4-1, the results have not been the same.
After the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo before the 2018-2019 season, Juve’s fortune was expected to hopefully change but this did not happen as the rest of the players have not been performing up to the standard that they should be. In the last two UCL campaigns, the Bianconeri have managed to score seven goals in the knockout stages, all of them coming from the Portuguese star.
Having said that, the Turin side has not struggled with domestic success but this season they were close to losing the league to Inter Milan. Currently, Juve has a seriously aging squad and the playstyle that Maurizio Sarri was hoping to play was not helping their causes either.
They have appointed a new coach in Andrea Pirlo to hopefully bring in younger and better players and also promise success in not only the domestic level. First, the task in hand that the Italian manager has is to sell the players he does not have use of, one of which happens to be Gonzalo Higuain.
Although the 32-year-old is a fantastic striker, his abilities have deteriorated and he is not the same threat he used to be. Rumours suggest that the Zebre would be willing to sign Barcelona ace Luis Suarez, as their new coach Ronald Koeman wants to get rid of the Uruguayan due to his lackluster performances recently.
Suarez instead of Higuain wouldn’t exactly be an upgrade but it would surely mean the addition of a better striker to the team. However, this move is filled with complications that have enabled Pirlo’s side for options elsewhere.
According to reports, Juventus might be looking at the possibility of signing their former player Alvaro Morata. The Spaniard played for the Serie-A champions from 2014-2016 before rejoining Real Madrid and has been very impressive ever since. Now, he is playing for La Liga side Atletico Madrid where he has also made his name.
If a transfer is to be put in question the asking price is in the ballpark of around 80 million euros, which is not something the Bianconeri can afford. Instead, they would be looking for a player + cash deal, with Douglas Costa, Aaron Ramsey, or Federico Bernadeschi the candidates likely to be traded.
Los Rojiblancos could use players like Costa or Bernadeschi in their team, as they bring in pace and skill along the flanks, a commodity they have been lacking for quite some while. Such a move would benefit both sides as Juve would get a young and prolific striker which they desire and Atleti might get a boost on one of the aspects that they lack in, as well as get some cash on the side. Nothing is certain as of now and it remains to be seen if Morata will wear the black and white jersey again.
