Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has refused a major offer from Barcelona, who are looking to sell before they can sign players.
It has been a fast start for the Catalan giants Barcelona, who have managed to win against Villarreal and Celta Vigo in great fashion under their new coach Ronald Koeman. However, their draw against Sevilla signalled a lack of squad depth, which they must answer by signing player. The Dutchman has been authorized with complete autonomy in order to revive the club and bring the glory back to Camp Nou.
The former Everton manager was quick to shed the deadwood from team by selling players like Ivan Rakitic and the Portuguese full back Nelson Semedo whereas Arturo Vidal and Luis Suarez had to depart upon the coach’s demand as well. Apart from the recent flurry of good results, there is one issue that needs to be addressed with utmost urgency, Ousmane Dembele.
Since his arrival at the Camp Nou three years ago, the Frenchman has appeared only 75 times, managed to score 19 and assisted 16 in his term with the club in all competitions. Heavily affected by all kinds of injuries, Dembele has managed to miss over 4000 minutes for the Blaugrana but it seems like the problems surrounding him transcend much deeper than regular injuries.
The lack of discipline from the French winger’s end cannot be overlooked as multiple fines and warnings imposed by the club don’t seem to make much of a difference on the 23-year-old’s attitude. In recent developments, the Catalan club has offered the World Cup winner to Premier League champions, Liverpool on a permanent transfer and values the player at 60 million euros.
The evaluation set by the Catalan club does not suit the Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, who is a long time admirer of the young Frenchman. The German manager is not willing to shell out a significant amount knowing that Barcelona needs the funds to rebuild the squad after a disastrous season and even more so because the Reds have spent a decent figure on landing Diogo Jota and Thiago Alcantara.
With Liverpool looking like an unlikely destination for the 23 year old, Barcelona will look forward to offer the player to Manchester United, who are desperately looking to sign a right winger as their pursuit of Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund has come to a fruitless end. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men certainly need major reinforcing and Dembele continues to be on their radar.
Barcelona could try to take advantage of the shrewd negotiation by Dortmund’s end and offer the Premier League giants, Ousmane Dembele as a cheaper alternative to the Englishman. Koeman has closed all doors for the young Frenchman at Barcelona and would look forward to use the money in order to rebuild the team, and most significantly use the funds for signing Memphis Depay.
