Atletico Madrid and Joao Felix has just not worked out at all this season

Joao Felix had rocked up the summer market of 2019 when the Portuguese teenage sensation agreed to sign for Atletico Madrid. Felix signed a stunning seven-year contract with Atletico Madrid after the Spanish side broke the bank to meet his 126 million euros release clause. Having said that, the former Benfica man went down in the history books of football as the third most expensive signing, Atletico Madrid’s record signing, and Benfica’s most expensive departure.

The Portuguese winger upon his arrival at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium was given the number 7 jersey which was previously worn by Antoine Griezmann who had left the club that summer for arch-rivals Barcelona.

A lot was expected from the 20-year-old due to his price tag and the hype that was created while the forward was at Benfica, however, several injuries along the season has left Felix dejected as the Portuguese international has not lived up to the expectations. With just six goals and assist to his name in the league so far, Felix has a lot to work on during the summer.

The Los Indios have been poor overall this season as Diego Simeone’s side have drawn 15 games so far in the league along with four losses. Since Atleti is a side that plays defensive football, it may not be the ideal environment for a talent like Felix to prosper.

Don Balon reports that Joao Felix has received an offer from Paris Saint-Germain who is willing 110 million euros to Atletico Madrid for their number 7. As Neymar of PSG has been tipped with a move this summer to Barcelona, the Parisian club have considered the Portuguese winger to be the ideal replacement.

The 20-year-old would certainly grow and fulfill his potential under Tuchel since PSG’s style of playing is based on fast transitioning counter-attacking football. An attacking lineup with Kylian Mbappe, Mauro Icardi, and Joao Felix would be a certain force to reckon with next season.

How would you rate Felix’s performance this season for Diego Simeone’s side so far? Should the young forward leave and move elsewhere to kick start his career or should he stay at Madrid?
