Barcelona are going to have a new president soon and one of the most strongly contending candidates has ambitious plans for the club.
Barcelona were sent into a frenzy when its president, Josep Maria Bartomeu announced his resignation on a few days ago. His resignation could bring in the much-needed modification for the current aging squad, and correct guidance could lead the Catalans to success once again.
Among all the chaos, Joan Laporta has emerged as a top contender to inherit the presidential spot for the Catalan club and is backed by the most influential individuals in the dressing room. If this happens, it would be Laporta’s second stint as a president for the Blaugrana. Having already guided the club to its most prosperous era, the former chief plans to bring back the glory to the prestigious Camp Nou with plans of his own.
Reports suggest that the 58-year-old wants to bring the Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola who is out of contract in the next summer back into the dugout. The Spanish manager has shown no intention whatsoever of extending with the Premier League giants. On the other hand, Laporta is expected to extend his full support to the Argentinian talisman, Lionel Messi.
Messi was set to leave the Catalan club this summer after falling out with the club’s previous board. His contract ends in 2021 and the player’s stay could only be extended in an event that he sees a major improvement in the club’s proceedings. The president elect knows Messi’s demands for the future as he promises to sign players in order to reinforce their squad.
Joan Laporta is expected to make at least five signings in order to bolster the positions of central defender, winger, midfielder, and two forwards. The Spaniard has not officially announced his candidacy for the presidential elections but is expected to make a statement soon that confirms his involvement once an election date is announced.
