Lautaro Martinez of Inter Milan is most likely set to sign an extension with the Italian side, according to reports from Italy

The 2019/20 season saw a lot of limelight shone towards Lautaro Martinez of Inter Milan. The Argentine marksman managed to score 14 goals in Serie A along with two goals in the UEFA Europa League. Martinez’s contribution last season had caught the eye of Barcelona and Manchester City, who were eager on competing for the player.

It was believed that Pep Guardiola considered Martinez to be the ideal replacement for Sergio Aguero who has regressed with age. The 23-year-old does share a similar style of that of Aguero as the Serie A man is a serious threat in goal and has the ability to take on defenders and get past them with ease due to his pace.

However, what Martinez’s lacks is consistency. Which he seems to have worked on as the former Racing player has scored three goals so far in the three matches in the 2019/20 Serie A season. The 23-year-old has built a formidable partnership with former Manchester United forward Romelu Lukaku and it seems like the duo could possibly give Juventus a run for their money in Serie A this season.

Martinez was also a top target of Barcelona for the last couple of seasons, however, under the new management at the Camp Nou, Memphis Depay has become the priority signing. Having said that, Calico Mercato reports that Inter Milan are confident that Lautaro Martinez will sign a contract renewal despite the interest shown by other top European sides.

Martinez’s contract is set to expire in the summer of 2023, however, Inter wants to get down to business immediately to lock in their star player. It is a well-known fact that the striker has the potential to become the next big thing in football, however, Inter would prefer that the player continues to mature at the San Siro before he makes the big jump to the other European powerhouses.
