Inter Milan are assured that their star striker will sign a new deal and will extend his stay beyond the summer of 2023
Inter Milan have the services of two excellent forwards in their present squad as the striker duo of Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez played an integral role in helping their side get a second-place finish in the Serie A last season. The Nerazzurri were almost close to lifting the league title last term as they were only a point away from securing their 19th championship title.
Besides Lukaku, Martinez to has had a threatening presence in the final third as the Argentine forward raked up 14 goals in 35 appearances in the league campaign. The former Racing Club man has been a regular starter at the San Siro for the past couple of seasons and is presently one of the brightest prospects of European football.
The 23-year-old was reportedly on the radar of Barcelona in the recently concluded transfer window as the Blaugrana outfit was interested to replace the forward with Luis Suarez. The Catalan side had missed out on a potential deal for the Inter star as the club could offer only 15 million euros for the striker and hence were deprived of the opportunity to land the player.
Italian sources suggest that Inter Milan are now confident that Martinez will soon sign an extension with the club and will look to extend his stay beyond the summer of 2023. The Nerazzurri are keen to provide the youngster with a new contract which will reportedly keep the striker at the club till June 2025.
The Argentine star was previously asked whether the player would leave San Siro in the near future to which he stated that he is happy with his present club but is unsure whether he would stay in Italy. The 23-year-old said,
“I’m happy, we work every day, we want to win and to bring Inter as high as possible. I don’t know what will happen tomorrow, today I can say that I am at Inter and that I’m happy.”
The Inter striker will be focusing on the present season as the Serie A outfit has not been at their best so far in their ongoing league campaign. Antonio Conte‘s men are almost on the verge of getting knocked out of the Champions League this term and might have to settle for a place in the Europa League. The Nerazzurri will look to put up an improved performance in the next round of fixtures as they look to rejuvenate their dull start to the season.
