The Argentine midfielder is expected to leave Paris Saint-Germain in the summer, despite having two more years left on his contract.
Leandro Paredes, who was one of the highly-rated midfielders a few seasons ago, has failed to live up to the hype at Paris Saint-Germain. Currently, the Argentine has failed to cement a place in the starting lineup. The 26-year old has started just 40% of the matches for the reigning Ligue 1 champions this season and is expected to leave the club in the summer.
The former Boca midfielder was signed by PSG in the winter transfer window in 2019, for a sum amounting to 40 million euros. He has fallen down in the pecking order at the club in the past year, despite being handed the armband in a Coupe de France fixture in January 2020. As a result, an exit in the summer looks imminent, as reported by Calcio Mercato.
The report adds that the 26-year-old Argentine has been targeted by Italian giants Juventus and Inter Milan. Paredes got his fair share of the limelight in the 2015-16 season when he was on a one-year loan at Empoli from AS Roma. Giallorossi sold the midfielder to Zenit St. Petersburg in 2017, before arriving in France in 2019.
During his stay in Russia, Juventus attempted to negotiate a loan deal with Zenit for the Argentine’s services, but an agreement could never be reached. Last winter, Antonio Conte was interested in signing the 26-year old, in case Christian Eriksen decided to leave the club. However, the Danish midfielder remained at the Nerazzurri and as a result, the negotiations never went further.
Leandro Paredes has a market value around the figure of 20-25 million euros, and Paris Saint-Germain will be looking forward to getting rid of the Argentine in the summer, whose contract runs out in the summer of 2023. Both, Juventus and Inter Milan have placed a huge emphasis on their midfield area and will be looking forward to bolstering their squad.
Aaron Ramsey and Adrien Rabiot are expected to leave Juventus at the end of the season, so the former Zenit midfielder could be a natural replacement for the duo. However, if he does have an option to choose between Inter and Juventus, the Argentine should choose the former since the latter are currently going through a serious crisis. Antonio Conte seems to be more clear with his tactics and in terms of what he wants from his players, and Paredes can be a perfect fit in Inter’s strong midfield.
