The 2021 presidential candidate for Barcelona reveals his intentions for the managerial role at Camp Nou.
Potential 2021 Barcelona presidential elect, Victor Font, reveals that Quique Seiten will no longer be the coach if he is appointed.
Barca hierarchy have been predicted to have a massive restructuring after the 2021 presidential election which will mark a new era of Blaugrana under, hopefully, a new and improved board. The current president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, has made a name for himself as one of the worst presidents in the club’s history after multiple disappointing performances and transfers.
The major Champions League exits against Roma and Liverpool, despite having a superb lead in the first half, were largely blamed on the former coach, Ernesto Valverde, and the mentality of the players. It was not just the Champions League where the team struggled but also in the local Spanish tournaments against Atletico Bilbao and Valencia, in the Copa del Rey and Spanish super cup.
This eventually led to the sacking of Valverde to bring on Quique Setien as the coach to reinvent the current squad. Despite seeing immense improvement compared to the side that played under Valverde, the 61-year-old could not find the perfect system. Barca eventually lost their first position in La Liga table to Real Madrid, who currently stand 4 points clear with only 3 league games remaining.
While it remains to be seen whether Setien manages to keep his job until the end of this season or beyond, presidential candidate Victor Font has already given his plan for the future. He praises Setien for doing a great job so far but has revealed that he does not see him as the ideal coach for the club’s future.
For me personally he’s a coach I’ve always liked but it’s true too that he’s not the coach we’re backing for the future.” Font revealed
According to Font, a former Barcelona midfielder turned coach is the perfect man for the job. If elected, he would appoint one of the most successful Barca midfielders, Xavi Hernandez, as the perfect coach to build a successful Blaugrana.
Absolutely. It’s true that Xavi will be the coach when he decides, whoever is president, because Xavi is patriomony of Barcelona and their biggest hope. But I’m sure there will not be another project that has worked for so long to ensure that the sporting project that Xavi has in his head can be executed with the maximum chance of success.” Victor said.
While Xavi remains the most awaited Barcelona manager, things under Setien are not looking very promising with the Squad not only continuing their battle with Real Madrid for the La Liga title but also preparing for the Champions League.
UEFA revealed that if Barca wins their second leg clash against Napoli, they will be facing the winner of Chelsea versus Bayern Munich. Bayern have already defeated Chelsea 3-0 in their respective first leg clash and are looking very strong to win the whole tournament as they have already managed to secure both Bundesliga title and the DFB Pokal. A Champions League will ensure the ultimate dream of a treble for the German giants.
