Real Madrid finally close in on a backup for Casemiro from the Ligue 1
The midfield at Real Madrid remains as a questionable department for the upcoming summer transfer market on which of the players should make their way out and which players would be required to be recruited in the summer as potential signings.
Currently, the midfield at Real composes of Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, Casemiro, Federico Valverde, Isco, and James Rodriguez. The two loaned out midfielders from the Santiago Bernabeu who are expected to return this summer is Dani Ceballos from Arsenal and Martin Odegaard from Real Sociedad.
The Los Blancos have a replacement for almost every position in the middle of the park apart from a central-defensive midfielder. Although Fede Valverde has been played as a central-defensive midfielder in the past under Zinedine Zidane, his last outing against RCD Mallorca was not as impressive and the Uruguayan international seemed virtually invisible throughout the game.
Previously, Zinedine Zidane had Marcos Llorente at his disposal to cover up Casemiro’s role, however, the Spaniard had not impressed the French manager enough to get sufficient minutes under his belt and was sold during the summer of 2019-20 to arch city-rivals, Atletico Madrid.
Zinedine Zidane had demanded the signing of Paul Pogba when he returned as manager of Real in the 2018/19 after the board sacked their former player, Santiago Solari. The French midfielder of Manchester United has become a well-known figure at the Santiago Bernabeu and Zidane has never shied away from expressing his admiration towards his compatriot.
According to Diaro GOL, Florentino Perez considers the proposition to sign the former Juventus midfielder as an extremely expensive deal. Manchester United and Chelsea are one of the few clubs that are still financially stable after the economic crisis blow that COVID-19 has had on most clubs.
The asking price from the Red Devils for their star midfielder is reported to be around 110 million euros, quite a handsome figure given the current circumstances that most clubs face. Instead, the men in white have narrowed down on a cheap alternative from Ligue 1.
65 million euros is what Florentino Perez has prepared to offer Rennes for their left-footed central defensive midfielder, Eduardo Camavinga. The 17-year-old midfielder flourishes when deployed as a central midfielder in the 4-4-2 formation since the teenage sensation can defend impressively and is quick on his feet to start counter-attacks when required. Statistically, Camavinga has been a rock in the midfield defensively for his Ligue 1 side as he has averaged almost an impressive 5 recoveries per game in the league along with 4.72 interceptions per game.
The potential shown by the teenager is beyond questionable doubt as his influence has been backed by impressive stats that elite midfielders also fall short off. At 65 million euros, the Los Blancos would have another star player in their squad for the future along with Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo Goes, Takefusa Kubo, Martin Odegaard, Achraf Hakimi and so on.
What do you make of Camavinga signing for Real Madrid this summer? Does the 17-year-old have it in him to make the big jump to the Santiago Bernabeu?
