Crystal Palace could turn to Chelsea in order to fortify their squad, which may be undergoing a revamp in the 2021 calendar year.
Chelsea had a massive overhaul in the summer and as a consequence, saw many first-team players suffer from a lack of playing time. One of them is Marcos Alonso, whose minutes have been numbered since the arrival of Ben Chilwell. The English left-back has quickly adapted to life in west London and is an undisputed started under Frank Lampard.
Marcos Alonso on the other hand has failed to play even a single minute for the Blues since September. The former Fiorentina defender was subbed off at half-time against West Brom and never played thereon. As a matter of fact, the 29-year-old enjoyed just a couple of good seasons and the Stamford Bridge at failed to deliver otherwise.
Under Antonio Conte, Alonso was terrific and played a crucial part in both of the Italian’s seasons at Chelsea. Ever since signing for Inter Milan, Conte has attempted to sign the left-back as well as his counterpart Emerson Palmieri, but to no avail. With an exit looming large, Alonso may well be in the Premier League itself.
Daily Mail has claimed that Crystal Palace are looking to land the Chelsea man. Marcos Alonso still has two and a half years remaining on his contract with the Blues and that may pose an issue for any side trying to sign him. Chelsea may name a considerably high price for their defender given that he is their only back-up in the event of Emerson’s departure.
Patrick van Aanholt is expected to leave Selhurst Park once the season ends and the Eagles are already pondering over a replacement for him. Alonso will no doubt be a great addition but all signs point towards the transfer that is easier said than done. The player would want to earn as well as he does at Chelsea and play in Europe.
Roy Hodgson’s side certainly will not be able to offer him both and if an offer from the Serie A comes calling, the full-back may prefer that instead. Inter Milan are almost certainly going to come back for Alonso given that both their left wing-backs, Aleksandar Kolarov and Ashley Young, are aged. The San Siro would be the perfect destination for the Chelsea man.
