Chelsea winger enters Borussia Dortmund radar as Sancho replacement

Borussia Dortmund have shortlisted a replacement for Jadon Sancho as the Englishman continues to be linked with a return to the Premier League.

Borussia Dortmund forward, Jadon Sancho has been touted to depart the club this summer to join Manchester United after an attempt last year fell through. The 21-year-old has been classified as a priority signing by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who is keen on reinforcing the right-wing of his attack, as per The Telegraph. The Red Devils are currently in the driving seat to sign Sancho after the English winger has been given the green light to leave in light of their recent financial struggles.

Euro Sport reports that Dortmund have found their replacement for Sancho in the shape of Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi. The 20-year-old winger has not received continuity at Stamford Bridge this season after failing to impress Frank Lampard and Thomas Tuchel. He has only played slightly over 1000 minutes in the Premier League this season and has struggled to cement a place in the starting eleven.

The right-winger has not lived up to the expectations or the hype since his promotion to the first team in 2019 after being handed an expensive contract worth 120,000 pounds per week. Chelsea are open to the idea of letting the 20-year-old leave on loan in this summer’s transfer window, provided that the interested suitor is willing to pay a majority of his wages.

At Dortmund, they view Callum Hudson-Odoi as the ideal successor for Jadon Sancho’s position. The Chelsea winger is not as good as a goal-scorer as Sancho but is equally talented in terms of progressing with the ball forward and beating defenders while dribbling.

Successfully replacing Jadon Sancho would be a difficult task as they aren’t many right-wingers in the market wanting a new challenge. Nonetheless, Borussia Dortmund could be heading in the right direction by signing  Hudson-Odoi on a loan deal, as he could probably burst onto the scene in the Bundesliga like Sancho, who initially struggled to secure a role in Manchester City’s senior team.

The Black and Yellows have kept their options open and have also looked into the possibility of signing Leeds United’s Raphina and Ligue 1 champion Jonathan Ikone who has had a stellar campaign with Lille this season. Should Borussia Dortmund consider signing Callum Hudson-Odoi this summer?
