Chelsea are planning to secure double defensive reinforcements as part of the massive restructuring project.
Chelsea have already been busy in the transfer window having already secured amazing talents such as Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner from Ajax and RB Leipzig respectively.
But the Blues boss, Frank Lampard, believes that the restructure is far from over as the team’s defense is in shambles. While the hunt of a new goalkeeper is ongoing, despite having the world’s most expensive goalkeeper transfer, Kepa Arrizabalaga; the Premier League side must also sign multiple defensive reinforcements in order to have a fighting chance against league favorites Liverpool and Manchester City.
The London side have found the perfect pair of defenders that Lampard believes to have the potential to be successful at Stamford Bridge. Manchester City‘s John Stones and Brighton’s Lewis Dunk are the players desired by the English side.
After conceding 54 goals this season, Lampard is adamant about bringing the two stars with Stones being looked at as a loan option. The 26-year-old has been their target since Jose Mourinho’s days and continues to be well-respected by the club.
City secured Stones from Everton after spending 47 million pounds, but the defender has fallen out of favor in recent years. Pep Guardiola has now spent 41 million pounds on securing Nathan Ake which could potentially end Stones’ days at the Etihad Stadium.
Meanwhile, the negotiations for Lewis Dunk seems optimistic, with reports suggesting the Blues agreeing to sign the defender for 40 million pounds. Brighton, however, desires to keep the 28-year-old as he has been a consistent part of their project. Lampard believes Dunk to be a focused athlete capable of bringing leadership and effective vocal to the backline which will help stabilize a solid defense for the next season of both the Premier League and the Champions League.
