Chelsea have two replacements for Kepa in the summer window up their sleeve

Kepa Arrizabalaga was signed by Chelsea in the summer of 2018 after the Blues first-choice goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois secured a move to the Spanish giants, Real Madrid. The former Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper was signed as a replacement for the Belgian wall and was signed for a world record fee worth 71 million pounds making him the most expensive goalkeeper in football history.

Life in England did not start too bright for the Spaniard in his debut season as he had the pressure to live up to the most expensive signing in the club’s history. Kepa had fallen out with former Chelsea coach Maurizio Sarri which had seen  Willy Caballero get the nod in goal for the remainder of the season.

However, Frank Lampard‘s appointment as Chelsea’s boss has turned a new leaf for Kepa’s career as the Spaniard has played 28 games this season in the Premier League. Despite the chances provided to the 25-year-old goalkeeper, Lampard still does not seem convinced especially after the 3-2 defeat to West Ham at the London Stadium.

The Express reports that the Blues of London have shortlisted Paris Saint-Germain’s loaned out goalkeeper Alphonse Areola and Mike Maignan of Lille as potential replacements for Kepa. Tottenham Hotspur has also shown interest in signing Maignan as Hugo Lloris is no longer the same goalkeeper he once was due to his recent string of injuries. Alphonse Areola is currently on loan at Real Madrid, however, both PSG and Real are not interested in the player and are looking to load him off this summer.

Newcastle United has also entered the race to sign Areola who still has three years left on his contracts with the Parisian team. PSG are willing to let Areola walk out before his contract expires only if a suitable offer comes their since the Ligue 1 champions have plans to splash big once again in the summer and are currently preparing to offload players to avoid a breach in the Financial Fair Play rules.

Meanwhile, Chelsea has already bagged Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner and are currently in talks with Kai Havertz of the Bundesliga and Ben Chilwell of Leicester City. Jadon Sancho still remains a questionable figure at the Stamford Bridge since the former Man City man has been linked to a move to Manchester United instead.

Nonetheless, Kepa has been linked with a two-year loan deal to Valencia which will be finalised as soon as the Blues sign either of the French goalkeepers.
