Chelsea are set to make a final decision on N’Golo Kante’s future after the player has been lined with a move out for quite sometime
Following what came as a huge transfer window for them, Chelsea is now one of the favorites to win trophies for the 2020-2021 season. Making exceptional signings in almost all positions they were lacking in, the Blues are set to be a force to reckon with. Alongside a very successful transfer window, Frank Lampard has also helped with the performance of the first team, leading them to a 4th place finish last season despite going through a transfer ban.
The Englishman was able to get the best out of the squad for the 2019-2020 season, however, the 42-year-old was not able to utilize the services of the most important player in the squad, N’Golo Kante. The Frenchman is a stellar defensive midfielder with an exceptionally high work rate, something that played a very big role in Leicester City’s title-winning campaign and every season ever since.
Every coach the World Cup winner has played under has made the most out of him, playing him in almost every match. As he built the reputation of being practically ‘un-injurable’, the 29-year-old finally fell to injuries during Lampard’s tenure at the club, playing just half of the English side’s matches for the season.
Even though Lampard has clearly stated that Kante is an indispensable part of the squad and will not be getting sold, the option of a sale was being looked at. Former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has been inquiring regarding a potential transfer involving the Frenchman. The deal offered was a player plus cash swap one, with Christian Eriksen and Marcelo Brozovic being the candidates in questions, however, this offer has since been rejected.
Being injury prone might be a good reason to get rid of the former Leicester player, but Kante has proved himself as one of the best defensive-midfielders in the game and looking at the current attacking talents that have arrived to play for the Blues, a defensive player like him would be of key importance in the team going forward.
In conclusion, Lampard might have replacements for the 29-year-old at the club in Jorginho or Mateo Kovacic but the contribution Kante brings to the team is unparalleled, and it would be wise to keep the French international, which reportedly is exactly what Chelsea have decided to do. Unless a team matches their asking price which is rumoured to be more than 75 million euros, it is unlikely that the Chelsea star will be leaving the Stamford Bridge.
