Chelsea have had a major squad revamp this summer and will relentlessly continue doing so in the next few days.
Chelsea have spent over 200 million euros on players this transfer window. With Frank Lampard as head coach, the team has managed to bring in names like Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, Thiago Silva and Kai Havertz amongst others.
However, even after this spending spree, the results have not been as expected. The Blues feature one of the best teams in the Premier League on paper but have struggled to perform since the new season commenced, dropping points against lowly West Brom in the process.
Although a few more players including Ziyech and Chilwell that Lampard has bought haven’t started this season in the league, the Englishman plans to bring in even more players to the side.
According to reports, West Ham United’s defensive midfielder Declan Rice might be on the 42-year-old’s radar. The youngster has been shortlisted as one of the perfect options for the Blues’ problems in defence as his versatility enables him to play at centre-back too.
The English international is also extremely reliable as he managed to play every single minute of the Premier League in the 2019-2020 season. He is even considered to be the next captain for the Hammers as said by David Moyes, which is a strong statement to make for a player who is just 21 years of age.
Though West Ham will not let go of the youngster very easily, Chelsea might still have the money to make an irrefutable offer or they also have the option of selling players to gather funds with Antonio Rudiger and Kurt Zouma already listed for transfers.
The addition of the youngster to the team would be of great use as he brings great versatility to the side and being so young, has great potential to improve in the future. The midfielder is player who started his career in Chelsea’s academy and is good friends with Mason Mount who currently plays for the Blues.
So even though West Ham’s assistant manager says Rice is not considering a move to anywhere else, there is a big chance that he might sign for Lampard’s side.
