Juventus are close to signing a Chelsea left-back on a permanent deal this winter transfer window as Andre Pirlo is keen on more signings
Chelsea in this recently concluded summer transfer market has spent a whopping 220 million pounds on summer acquisitions such as Hakim Ziyech Timo Werner, Kai Havertz, Thiago Silva, Ben Chilwell, and Edouard Mendy. These players were brought in to address key areas that needed strengthening in order for Frank Lampard to compete across all competitions.
The key area that needed strengthening along with the goalkeeper position was the left-back position which was very well documented last season as the likes of Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri struggled to achieve the consistency levels that were needed, which prompted Chelsea and Frank Lampard to shell out a massive 50 million pounds on summer signing Ben Chilwell.
Juventus are in a need for a full back this year as Alex Sandro is the only competent one in the Juventus’s squad as fitness levels of Alex Sandro, has prompted Andrea Pirlo to shift the shape to a 3 at the back and play Bernardeschi as a wingback on the left and as a result of which the Chelsea Italian full-back Emerson Palmieri has caught the eyes of the Bianconeri.
Emerson Palmieri was purchased in the January market by Chelsea in 2018 under Antonio Conte and enjoyed a promising start to his Chelsea career by some solid displays and a good run in the first team under then-manager Maurizio Sarri. Later when Lampard was hired and Sarri was sacked, Emerson continued to feature in the Chelsea team which was young and in transition however he did not elevate his performances and did not meet the performance standards that were required.
A series of bad performances and fitness issues saw him down the pecking order behind the out-of-form Alonso. Due to poor performances from the two fullbacks at Chelsea, the acquisition of Ben Chilwell has seen playing time for Emerson even diminish further as he has only featured in one EFL cup game and made a late substitute appearance in a UCL game against Krasnodar.
Emerson has been the subject of interest ever since his Roma days. Juventus this season have seen issues cropping up on the left-hand side particularly with the injury issues to Alex Sandro, which saw them registering a serious interest in the latter stages of the summer transfer window, however, they could not reach an agreement with Chelsea over the asking price.
However, with the Euros coming up next year and playing time hard to come by, it is likely that Emerson will push for a transfer in the January window to increase his playtime and also stay in contention for selection for the upcoming Euros for Italy. As reported by Calcio Mercato, it is likely that Juventus will push again in the market and come back with an offer for Emerson.
Chelsea with Ben Chilwell and Marcos Alonso already as their main left-back at the club will be tempted to cash in on Emerson if Juventus comes up with a good offer that matches their asking price. It will be interesting to see the outcome of this potential transfer saga
Do you think Emerson should push for a move out of Chelsea to revitalize his career?
