One of the Chelsea defenders is considering his future after being dropped for two consecutive matchdays.

After arriving at Chelsea from Roma on a permanent transfer for just 8 million pounds, a lot was expected from Antonio Rudriger. Appearing in over 40 games in his first season, it was a remarkable achievement to directly make a breakthrough into the first team for someone who hasn’t played a minute in the English circuit.

In his second season with the north London side, Rudiger managed to feature 44 times under their new coach Maurizio Sarri, who later clinched the Europa League for Chelsea. It was another starring season for German as he scored a goal and managed to keep 16 clean sheets in all competitions for the Premier League side.

Ever since the arrival of Frank Lampard as Chelsea manager, the defender has noticed a sheer drop in his game time earning just 28 appearances for the 2019/20 season across all competitions and losing his place to younger such as Fikayo Tomori, Kurt Zouma and Andreas Christensen in the process.

Chelsea have started their current campaign in mediocre fashion as they managed to win 3-1 against Brighton though unconvincingly and were defeated 2-0 by Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool in a lackluster performance by the west London club. Rudiger was dropped from the starting eleven and remained on the bench despite Christensen’s sending off as Tomori was preferred in the second half.

According to Sky Sports, the choices made by Lampard are making the 27-year-old defender reconsider his future at  Chelsea. With his prime fast approaching, the former Roma defender wants to play regularly in order to ensure his place in German national squad for the upcoming European Championships. His only appearances this season have come for Germany, starting against Spain and Switzerland earlier this month.

With only two years on his current deal with Chelsea, a switch in pastures is certainly not a bad choice. The options are plenty if the centre-back chooses to leave and it only seems like a matter of time before his future is resolved, more so with Thiago Silva now being fit to feature.
