Chelsea continues their optimistic pursuit to sign Barcelona’s highly valued transfer target from the Netherlands this season.

After the imposition of a transfer ban, preventing them from buying players, it was expected that London side Chelsea would crumble in the following 2019-2020 season and might have to struggle to even qualify for the Europa League. With the departure of World Cup golden glove winner Thibaut Courtois the season before, and one of the team and even the league’s best Eden Hazard before this season, situations were just getting worse for the Blues.

But with the appointment of former club legend Frank Lampard, things quickly turned around. The youngsters in the team stepped up to put amazing performances all year round, players from the youth team made the mark with players like Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount making the difference. With such performances, the Blues have managed to end up 4th in the league Qualifying for the Champions League next season.

The English coach has already started with the recruiting and has made some exceptional signings with the likes of Hakim Ziyech from Dutch side Ajax and star German striker Timo Werner from Bundesliga side Red Bull Leipzig. Not only this, but there are rumors that state another big signing might be on the way for the English side as they are looking to buy Kai Havertz, the extremely talented youngster who plays for Bayer Leverkusen.

With the addition of such strong players, Chelsea is for sure going to be a force to reckon with, but it seems like the spending spree Lampard is on might not be over yet. The English coach is in the market for a quality left-back for his side, which he had found in Leicester City player Ben Chilwell. However, a deal is unlikely to pull through as the Foxes were demanding a whopping 80 million euros for the fullback.

Due to his unaffordable price, Lampard has been forced to look elsewhere for the player of his desire. One player which the Premier League side has laid their eyes on is another Ajax player, Nicolas Tagliafico. The Argentine is an exceptional player and would be a certain upgrade from Marcos Alonso due to his strong defensive abilities. Tagliafico is an aggressive defender that never shies away from a tackle. The 27-year-old also has three goals and four assists from 24 appearances in the Eredivisie this season.

A deal is yet to materialize between the two sides and it remains to be seen whether the Argentinian would be playing in the Premier League next season in a blue jersey.
