Chelsea is looking to continue their star-studded player buying spree with Paris Saint Germain star their next target.
After being appointed as Chelsea coach for the 2019-2020 season, Frank Lampard has somehow pulled off a 3rd position finish in the Premier League without even making proper transfers. Due to a transfer ban, the Englishman had a tough job to secure a position that makes the Blues play any of the European tournaments, but with the help of youth academy players and good tactics, the 42-year-old made it look easy.
With their best player Eden Hazard gone, the London side was looking for a more reliable alternative to recreate the threat that they had while attacking because of the Belgian international. But with Lampard going on a shopping spree, buying great attack-minded players in RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech from Ajax, balls are imminent to find the back of the net.
Not only that, but the Chelsea legend also has a star midfielder who he is about to sign, who has arguably been Bayer Leverkusen’s best player this season, Kai Havertz. With such a loaded squad, the English side can prove to be very strong contenders for any trophy provided they are shown the correct guidance.
However, one place Lampard still has to improve upon is the defense. Having conceded 54 goals in the league, their defensive record is the worst in the top 10, and the Englishman has just the man to fix this flaw in his sight. Paris Saint-Germain’s star player, Thiago Silva would be leaving the club after a long 8 seasons in the French league with the Ligue-1 champions. The Brazilian has undoubtedly established himself as one of the best in the world with his experience, physicality, and defensive abilities in the past few years.
According to reports, the Chelsea manager would be looking to add the 35-year-old to his squad on a free transfer. Silva had always fantasized about playing in the Premier League, so it makes the London side leaders in the race for signing him. Also, with the departure of Willian, the Blues would also be able to afford the wages of the former AC Milan man, he is even willing to take a pay cut to play in the English league.
Frank Lampard has done really well with the business this transfer window, making huge signings that will help the team immensely for the coming seasons. The transfer of Thiago Silva to the Stamford Bridge is not finalized, but if an agreement is reached with the player, Chelsea would be a force to reckon with next season.
