Chelsea and Manchester City are set to go all-in in the transfer market and have added one more common player onto their shopping lists.

Premier League giants, Chelsea and Manchester City are set to tussle over the in-form defender, Lucas Digne. This comes following Leicester’s lofty pricing of their in-demand defender in Ben Chilwell.

As per the Daily Mail, the Blues and the Citizens were said to be initially interested in the English defender given his current performances. However, the Foxes have set a 75 million pound price tag.

Due to the current financial situation being endured by the clubs all over the world, reaching that price tag seems to be tough.  However, the Premier League duo has figured out a cheaper alternative in Everton’s Lucas Digne who seems to have caught the eyeballs as well.

Digne arrived from Barcelona back in 2018 for a sum of 18 million pounds and quickly established himself in the Everton setup, taking the club’s player of the season of the award in his debut season itself. Since then, it only appears that his game has grown and he is now well on the way to becoming one of the top left-backs in world football.

Naturally, the Toffees do not want to let go of the 26-year-old and will only do so should a big transfer fee arrive. Pep Guardiola needs a first choice center-back as Benjamin Mendy and Oleksandr Zinchenko have failed to solidify their position in the squad. On the other hand, Frank Lampard is looking to bring in Digne as a replacement for Marcos Alonso.

It is highly unlikely that Everton will accept a bid for one of their bigger names anyhow given that they’re under no absolute pressure to let go of their best players in order to make space for some equally big signings.

Both Manchester City and Chelsea have to go the drawing board to re-evaluate their options for the summer.

However, as things stand now, both clubs are in pursuit of Lucas Digne on a road that is likely to hit a dead-end. Moreover, the 26 year-old is three years younger than his counterpart in Chilwell.

While the Frenchman would be a great signing, it must be noted that his defensive capabilities have raised questions over his overall quality. Besides that, the ex-Barca superstar could opt in favour of staying at the Goodison Park where he is guaranteed playing time under Carlo Ancelotti. Plus, the Italian gaffer has ambitious plans in his mind for the near future and it’d be interesting to see.
