Barcelona and Chelsea have been bolstered in their bid to land a mutual target after it was announced that he would be allowed to leave his current club.
Barcelona and Chelsea are both in the transfer market for common interests as they look to land a left-back in the upcoming summer. The Blaugrana are looking to sign a replacement for Jordi Alba as Junior Firpo has flopped whereas Frank Lampard’s side is looking to phase out Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri who are no more as good as some seasons ago.
Ajax Amsterdam superstar Nicolas Tagliafico is a mutual target for both clubs, Metro claims. The Argentina international is a terrific left-back and certainly among the best in the world. Tagliafico is examining his options as he looks to test his credentials in another league having won every possible accolade in the Netherlands.
Erik ten Haag has confirmed that the 27-year-old will be allowed to leave the club this year and it’s certainly a major boost for both European outlets who have shown active interest in landing him. But while Barca may benefit massively by signing him, the Blues must consider alternative options for Nicolas Tagliafico.
Coming to Barca, the La Liga giants are in dyer need of replacing Alba. The Spain international has had his share of bad moments and at 31, he is not the player he was a few years ago. Attacking-wise, his contribution has deteriorated and the less said the better when it comes to his defensive work-rate. Plus, muscular injuries have been persistent.
Junior Firpo was signed from Real Betis last year but he has been a massive flop and could be shown the door just one year after signing on. Tagliafico is only valued at 30 million euros and for a club that is struggling to meet ends financially, his signing could be a good one considering both, the need for a quality left-back as well as a cheaper option.
However, Chelsea should look beyond him. The Blues are in not much of a financial strain despite spending heavily on Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner and also being in line to land Kai Havertz as well as Declan Rice. In fact, Ben Chilwell and David Alaba are both much better options in comparison to Tagliafico.
Leicester City’s star man is being valued at 80 million pounds, but the figure could be negotiable if he gets vocal about his desire about leaving the club. He is proving himself to Gareth Southgate for a regular spot in the England national side and signing for a better club would be a statement of intent. Plus, he is used to the Premier League and will settle quickly.
David Alaba meanwhile is similarly aged as Tagliafico, but the Austrian price tag is nearly double. It makes sense given that the Bayern Munich fullback can offer incredible quality on the attacking and defensive fronts. Alaba is a set piece specialist and would be the perfect replacement for Marcos Alonso whilst being an upgrade in terms of what they both bring to the backline.
