Chelsea are already having a productive time in the transfer market, and have now been boosted with good news on as many as three players.
After a transfer ban that caused conundrums to their short-term ambitions, Chelsea returned to the market in a trice as they managed to get their hands on Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner, spending close to 100 million euros in the process. However, the Blues are far from done as they continue to negotiate with several other players.
Football London has now reported on three big breaks that Frank Lampard has received with respect to his continued squad developments heading into the next season. The Blues are in the running for the Champions League, but irrespective of whether they make it to the elite competition or not, the Europa League is more or less a certainty.
Over the last couple of weeks and more so since Timo Werner’s arrival, the west Londoners have been linked with a move for Kai Havertz. The Germany international is a sublime attacking midfielder and boasts brilliant statistics. Havertz has been on-fire since football restarted after the coronavirus and seen his stock only go on to rise.
Bayer Leverkusen label their young ace at a price of 100 million euros, a tag that Chelsea as well as Real Madrid are willing to match. As such, it has been thought that the youngster would head to the Spanish capital where he dreams of playing, but the Stamford Bridge is undoubtedly a much better destination given the quality of the Premier League and opportunities on hand.
Real Madrid could be considered frontrunners on paper, but if Chelsea can do the convincing, then it’s difficult to see Havertz heading anywhere else.
Lampard is also keen on adding a left-back to his side with one eye on phasing out Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri, both of whom have underperformed. England international Ben Chilwell is on his wish-list and negotiations are ongoing with Leicester City. With the Foxes demanding close to 85 million euros, the Blues now have an alternative.
David Alaba, Bayern Munich’s extraordinary left-back is on the Premier League giant’s shortlist. The Austria international is open to departing the Allianz Arena for a newer challenge and there may be no better destination than England to pursue one. Barcelona are interested in him, but no concrete offer has been made by them.
Finally, Jorginho is set to stay at Chelsea after being backed to unite with Maurizio Sarri at Juventus. There were talks going on over a potential swap deal which could see Miralem Pjanic arrive in London, however, Joao Santos, the midfielder’s agent has confirmed that the Italy international is here to stay.
Jorginho staying is certainly good news for Super Frank given that he has been crucial in running the engine room this season. However, the Blues must try to sign another midfielder because besides N’Golo Kante, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Mateo Kovacic, there aren’t many players who can contribute on a high level regularly.
