Manchester City are once again in the transfer market with their plans for January nearing execution soon.
Manchester City have enjoyed a rough start to the Premier League as they are now two fixtures without a win. A 5-2 thumping by Leicester City was followed up by a 1-1 draw against Leeds United, which once again cast doubts over Pep Guardiola‘s tactical awareness in recent months. The Spaniard did use the absence of both his strikers as a cushion, which may well be a cryptic message about a January signing.
Plus, with Sergio Aguero nearing the end of his career, the arrival of a central forward at the Etihad Stadium may be on the cards sooner or later. Everton’s lethal marskman Dominic Calvert-Lewin could well be the perfect addition to the Citizens’ squad.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin is the hottest property in the Premier League as he continues to move forward in captivating fashion. Since the start of the season, the 23-year-old has managed to score six goals in four games for the Toffees and the Englishman carried his hot form as he earned his first international call up and managed to score a commanding header against Wales on his debut for the Three Lions.
Carlo Ancelotti‘s system has helped extract the best out of Calvert-Lewin. Assigned with a more central role this season, it is safe to that dismissal of former Everton manager, Marco Silva has certainly helped the young forward get onto a path which may help him reach his potential.
With his incredible understanding of the game, the young English striker has impressed the top Premier League clubs in no time. Out of all the clubs, the England international has been tipped to make a move to Manchester City, as the Sky Blues look to replace their main man Aguero. Having served the Citizens for nine years and won four Premier League titles, his illustrious career will soon come to an end.
The Argentinian striker arrived at the English club from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2011 and became one of the world’s best strikers, becoming the club’s all-time top scorer in the process. With the 32-year-old entering into the final months of his contract, a departure for the mercurial forward must not be ruled out.
Regardless of Aguero leaving, the club will look to fortify their attacking options in the upcoming transfer windows because even Gabriel Jesus has not been on as high a level as is expected. Having been linked with Lionel Messi, the Sky Blues would prioritise the Barcelona forward but if they tend to sway from their target then the Everton forward could be a great purchase for City.
His fantastic ability to make runs behind the opposition defence, heading prowess and goal poaching abilities make Carlvert-Lewin an exceptional target man in the opponent’s box. The connection between Kevin De Bruyne and the wings could be an integral key to success should he be signed.
Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman is also heavily interested in the 23-year-old and holds an advantage having coached the player before, but Catalan club would have to wait until January in order to procure the English forward as he continues to make an impact with his incredible form. Plus, Memphis Depay is more liked by the manager which could give Manchester City an edge if a winter move is on the cards.
Where do you think Calvert-Lewin would fit better between his two potential destinations?
