Borussia Dortmund set a deadline and price for Sancho’s departure

Borussia Dortmund have now named their price and also set a deadline for Jadon Sancho’s sale with Manchester United hovering over him.

Borussia Dortmund have a gentleman’s agreement with Jadon Sancho over his sale, amid interested from Manchester United since last summer. A move to the Old Trafford did not materialize for the England international last year, but it is expected that the Red Devils will finally realise their interest in Sancho during the ongoing transfer window.

According to Bild, the Black and Yellows have now set a deadline for Sancho’s departure and a final price as well. Borussia Dortmund would not be willing to sell the player after the end of July in order to give themselves enough time to sign a replacement. Considering how important the 21-year-old has been for the team, Dortmund’s stance is understandable.

In the 2020/21 campaign, potentially his last season at the club, Sancho struck 16 goals and provided 20 assists in all competitions. Besides Erling Haaland, he was their primary source of attacking contributions. Moreover, Dortmund don’t want another star’s departure late on to derail their season, as was the case when Ousmane Dembele left for Barcelona in 2017.

The Bundesliga side has also named a base price of 95 million euros for Sancho, which is a lower evaluation than the 120 million euros they expected for him in the previous summer. Apart from the bare minimum transfer fee, there are also likely to be performance-related bonuses worth 25 million euros in Sancho’s deal, most likely with Manchester United.

United seem to be the only party interested in him this summer and will have little competition from the rest of the Premier League. Dortmund, meanwhile, have already lined up a few replacements for Sancho, whose numbers certainly replicate how big a loss he will be for the German giants in the event that he is not replaced with an equally worthy player.

Jonathan Ikone, who played a crucial role in Lille’s title-winning campaign in France has been linked with a switch to the Signal Iduna Park. Ajax Amsterdam’s David Neres is another player on the shortlist, which also includes Sancho’s compatriot, Callum Hudson-Odoi, who is presently on the books of Chelsea.
