Manchester United are still keen on signing Jadon Sancho this summer. However, their actions are speaking louder than their intentions, now.
Manchester United have been linked with a transfer for Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho. A switch in pastures seemed imminent for the England international as the Red Devils were in pole position to land him. However, a dispute regarding the transfer fees left the transfer hanging in the balance before the Bundesliga giants decided to pull the plug on the negotiations at least for one year.
As per Sky Sports, Borussia Dortmund have been left bemused following the way Manchester United have approached the Jadon Sancho deal. The Red Devils have far exceeded the deadline set to them by the Bundesliga Giants and are nowhere near to landing the English winger.
Previously, a deadline of August 1st was set which was then extended to August 10th. In those 10 days however, the Premier League giants failed to concentrate on the main matter on hand, which was Dortmund’s asking price of 110 million pounds. They instead focused on agent fees and personal terms with the player; which could have been completed after an official bid was submitted.
United, despite hailing Sancho as their transfer target for the summer, weren’t willing to go beyond 80 million pounds and it is only natural that Dortmund wouldn’t budge on the asking fee for one of their best players who is also on the radar of some other clubs.
Manchester United have only acquired Donny van de Beek and by the looks of it, it may be the only transaction for them this summer. The transfer strategy of Manchester United needs some real work as whenever they approach a player or have a target in mind, they look desperate.
An addition to an already strong midfield highlights the lack of a systematic list of priorities at the Old Trafford. Donny van de Beek no doubt is a good signing but it can be debated on if he was the need of the hour at Old Trafford.
There is a visible at the backline and the attacking front of Manchester United and perhaps, had they focused their attention on filling any one of those positions, they wouldn’t have endured the deserved 3-1 defeat against Crystal Palace in their Premier League opener.
They are in need of a center-back or a left-back, centre-back and a right winger.
Sancho is the perfect fit for Manchester United as he would be very well supported by the likes of Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes. His addition would also increase the pace of the Red Devils’ attack by a significant margin.
Dortmund is now confident that they will have Jadon Sancho with them for the next season.
There’s still time to go for Manchester United and they have until October 5th to complete the deal. However, it is highly unlikely that Dortmund would be willing to sell the player so late into the window as they will need to look for a replacement.
The Bundesliga giants do not want to repeat the mistake that they did when they offloaded Ousmane Dembele to Barcelona at a point when they did not have enough time to look for a replacement. For all we know, BVB might also consider increasing their asking price due to the desperation shown in the process of acquiring the player’s services.
Earlier this week, it was suggested that Alex Telles was close to signing for Manchester United and could be a massive upgrade from Luka Shaw. The Brazilian has asked to leave Porto but one can never trust a United transfer unless and until it is confirmed officially.
