Borussia Dortmund are planning to sign La Liga attacker in a bid this summer with Erling Haalnd’s long-term future at the club uncertain.
Borussia Dortmund have been surrounded by transfer rumours this season with many claiming that the club might sell some of their star members due to their ongoing financial constraint. The likes of Erling Haaland, Giovanni Reyna, Jadon Sancho and Julian Brandt have all been linked with a move away from Signal Iduna Park.
Their mediocre start to their league campaign has brought in more speculation on this probable mass exodus. Currently sitting fifth in Bundesliga table, Edin Terzic’s men have been average since the start of their new season.
The team has although found some stability in the Champions League as they beat Sevilla 3-2 in the first leg of their round of 16 fixture and are in a good position to move to the quarterfinals of the competition. However, their participation in the competition next season remains doubtful.
The Black and Yellows are now intent to bring in another attacker to their present roster. Todo Fichajes has claimed that Dortmund are considering re-signing Alexander Isak from Real Sociedad. The Swedish international was a part of the Dortmund side back in 2017 but was sold to La Real in the summer of 2019 for a fee of 6.4 million euros.
After an average debut season in the Spanish top-flight, the young forward has had a bright start in the ongoing season. The striker has now piled up 12 goals in 21 appearances in La Liga this term. He has also become the club’s top scorer this season and has clocked a goal per 156 mins in La Liga.
Isak has attracted interest from leading sides in Premier League as Manchester City and Manchester United have reportedly enquired about the availability of the Swede. With Sergio Aguero opting not to sign an extension, the Citizens have stepped up their efforts to sign a replacement for the Argentine and hence have zeroed in on the Sociedad attacker.
Meanwhile, Manchester United continue to have a dearth in the strike role. Anthony Martial has misfired this season whereas Edinson Cavani is far from a long-term option.
However, Borussia Dortmund seem to be a step ahead of the Manchester giants in the hunt for Isak.
The Bundesliga giants are considering bringing back the youngster as a backup for Erling Haaland. The Norwegian forward has been in heavy demand of late and can soon move to a new destination after the end of this season. With clubs ready to shell out hefty fees for the attacker, it will not be uncharacteristic for Dortmund to let their star striker leave in the summer.
Edin Terzic’s side might cash in a few years later on Isak if they bring him back to Germany. The team could look to set a higher valuation for the Swedish international and probably look to re-sell the forward on a higher price to other interested parties. The 21-year-old is in the early stages of his professional career and would look forward to showing his real worth when he shifts base to a more elite club.
With Haaland’s departure likely, one Scandinavian marksman can surely be a good relief for the other. Isak’s height and off-the-ball movement make him a solid option for any team, not least for one like Dortmund who play aerially at times. It is not known how much amount Real Sociedad will charge for his sale, but with one of Dortmund’s superstar sold, they can comfortably afford him.
