Borussia Dortmund are confident that Erling Haaland will continue at the Signal Iduna Park for another season amidst exit rumours.
Erling Haaland had broken out into the scene in the 2019/20 UEFA Champions League campaign with RB Salzburg. His performances with the Austrian side in Europe’s elite competition drew attention from the top European clubs. It was Borussia Dortmund that emerged victorious from the long list of suitors for the Norwegian as the Black and Yellow signed the promising talent for 20 million euros on a four and half year contract.
Since then, there has been no looking back for BVB or Haaland. The striker has taken the Bundesliga by a storm in his one and half season and has now scored 33 goals in 33 games for Borussia Dortmund. Averaging a goal in every appearance for the Black and Yellow. His goal-scoring exploits in the German league and the UEFA Champions League has proven that he is an elite striker.
Clubs such as Manchester City, Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Chelsea are reportedly keen on acquiring the former RB Salzburg striker’s services next summer transfer window in 2021. However, Dortmund’s CEO is confident that Haaland will not leave the club at the end of the season and will stay at the Signal Iduna Park for one more season.
“I don’t think that will happen. Erling and his advisor Mino Raiola know what they have in us. Because it is clear that if Erling should leave us at some point, then he will only go to an even bigger club, and so many are not considered. If you join a club like – just for an example – Real Madrid, you have to be world-class.”
The Dortmund CEO believes that Haaland will continue for another season to grow into a more complete world-class footballer before taking on a bigger project such as Real Madrid. The 20-year-old is on a contract until 2024, however, a premature exit could be on the cards due to his release clause that will be activated from 2022.
The Norwegian striker’s release clause is set at 75 million euros which is a complete understatement for his quality. Real Madrid, Manchester City, Chelsea, and Barcelona will be looking into the option of signing Haaland in the summer of 2022.
