Bayern Munich centre-back has reportedly shown interest over a move to the MLS as the player hinted a desire to experience a new culture

Jerome Boateng has had a brilliant time at the Allianz Arena as the player has won all the prestigious accolades of club football. The German has become one of the best centre-backs of Europe during his stint at Bayern Munich. The former Manchester City defender has become a vital cog in the Bavarian defense and has almost completed a decade of his career in the club.

However, there have been speculations regarding the future of the centre-back as to whether he would sign a new contract with the Bundesliga Giants. Boateng has often been linked with numerous clubs in the past but the player has always been insistent on his stay with the German side.

Clubs like Manchester United, Paris Saint Germain, and Juventus have often enquired about the availability of the star defender and have made generous offers for the former Manchester City man. The 32-year-old center-half has always reiterated on the fact that he is happy to play for the German outfit and has no intention to leave the club.

In a recent interview, when the player was asked about the possibility of leaving the club, he responded by saying

“I can imagine [signing an extension]. My children feel at home here. With Hansi Flick as a coach and this team, it’s a lot of fun. In the end, I’m happy to still be with FC Bayern. I’m enjoying football again.”

At the same time, the World Cup winner did not rule out the prospect of joining a different league as the defender felt there is one major factor which could tempt him to leave his present club is the aspect of a new culture as he said, “Another culture. I like to learn new things and don’t always have to be in the same place. the USA, Asia or even another European country you will see – but it doesn’t have to be”.

Boateng’s opinion about embracing another culture has definitely increased the chances of the defender switching to MLS in the near future. The 32-year-old centre-back has a contract with Hansi Flick’s side which expires in June 2021 and has not yet signed an extension with the European Champions. Currently, the player is considering his options and will soon announce his future in the next few months.
