Bayern Munich superstar reconsiders his future after reportedly handing in a transfer request

Bayern Munich has been phenomenal this season, in every aspect. There has been individual excellence and also a great team effort which has helped them lead a successful campaign this season winning the Bundesliga and the DFB Pokal.

One of the stars which have helped immensely in carrying this out is Austrian defender David Alaba as he took on the role of a central defender for most of the season due to the injuries that ravaged the squad. With the versatility, pace, and agility he brings to the team, he is a nightmare for attackers while defending and even possesses a threat while attacking during set-pieces, in short, he is the complete Austrian package.

Real Madrid and Barcelona have kept a close tab on the player for several years, however, the Spanish giants have the golden opportunity to land the player this summer as the Austrian has entered the final 12 months of his contract and has no intention of renewing his stay at the Allianz Arena.

The versatile defender’s contract is set to expire in the summer of 2021 and Bayern Munich has decided to part ways with the defender this summer rather than losing him for free a year later. Manchester City and Chelsea have shown serious interest in well on procuring the services of Alaba, however, Bayern themselves plan on offering their star defender a revised contract that would meet his wage demands.

The Austrian’s father along with his agent had a meeting with the current Bayern board boss, where Alaba’s demands were clearly stated. The defender considers himself as one of the best in the world in comparison to Sergio Ramos and Virgil Van Dijk. As the Austrian rightfully believes that he belongs in the category of the elite footballers then he must be equally compensated for the same. Alaba wishes to be one of the top earners for the Bavarians along with Manuel Neuer and Robert Lewandowski, according to reports.

Bayern Munich, however, hasn’t yet responded to these demands and Alaba is yet to renew a contract with them. Alaba wishes to continue with the Bavarians and a contract extension seems likely but the terms are not yet decided. The talks are on hold but Alaba leaving next season is the least likely situation.  Money aside, he surely has been an instrument to Bayern’s success and only time will tell with which team his future lies.
